The Garden

Stars vault high garden walls
Like fruit from the tree beyond,

But stone from where death is

Is swept away, like a prow’s shadow,

Or memory, by the tree’s foam.

You and stars, chalk

Of a pure road, grow pale

To take the real garden from us,

And every road of the star-filled sky

Casts shadow

On this shipwrecked song,

And on our dark path.
